Includes: Freedom & Simplicity™ in Handwriting,
Bonus Handwriting Journal Pages,
and Freedom & Simplicity™ in Handwriting ~ Practice Pages.

A Biblical way to teach Handwriting? Really? Really! God and His Word are the Source of All we learn – even Handwriting. Not only does this book give complete instruction for learning Handwriting, both Manuscript and Cursive, it also teaches you the Biblical foundations for Handwriting.

Learning and Teaching Handwriting Biblically doesn’t mean you just use Scriptures for your Copywork. This L.E.D. Freedom & Simplicity™ Guide will help you find the Biblical foundation, principles and rudiments of Handwriting and even lead you through the application with instruction in both Manuscript and Cursive. Find Freedom & Simplicity™ in why we teach it, what we teach, and how we teach it!

From the introduction:“Who would have ever thought that there is a principled way to teach Handwriting? Not I. Oh, I know that everything comes from God, and should be taught based upon this, but I never thought I would delve into what principled teaching of Handwriting looks like. Perhaps you haven’t either. Then this study is for you. This guide does not cover the broader details relating to writing and English in general, only as applied to Handwriting.”

The ONLY book you need to teach ALL ages – includes the foundations of Handwriting, and instruction in Manuscript and Cursive.

Freedom & Simplicity™ in Handwriting ~ Practice Pages

Copywork pertaining to our current studies is our general method of practicing handwriting, but sometimes extra, focused practice is needed for some children. These Practice Pages fill that need. Plenty of practice, (along with reminders to observe the Rudiments,) in 2 sizes of manuscript and 1 of cursive, for the alphabet and sentences using every letter of the alphabet. Suggestions for use for a full year for all your students using Freedom & Simplicity™ in Handwriting, or any other italic handwriting program.

This is not meant to be a handwriting “curriculum” but rather fun, extra, basic practice, for those that have already learned letter formation and just need a little extra work on the Rudiments. Use it alongside Freedom & Simplicity™ in Handwriting (or other italic program) and Copywork, as needed. The introduction gives you suggestions for use.

  1. Lisa says:

I do teach cursive writing. For the past 6 years I have been teaching third grade, and it is the first year students are introduced to cursive.

This coming year, I will be teaching at a new school which is using a Biblical Worldview and the Principle Approach. I will be teaching manuscript to my younger students and cursive to my older students. (It will be a multiage classroom.)

  2. Lori Morgan says:

I do teach cursive and begin about age 7. I feel it helps to write faster and keeps the child from forming letters backwards.

  3. Josiah Friberg says:

I will teach cursive to my daughter this year. She is 7 years old. Interested to read your thoughts on handwriting.

1st child – as a reward for neat penmanship in the middle of 3rd grade, second child, we’ll wait and see

  6. Heather says:

    1) Yes. I usually begin at age seven but our six year old has shown interest so I have started to teach him. (They really like the idea that it’s almost like a secret code because fewer and fewer people are learning how to wrtie/read it!) 🙂

    2,3,4,5… done.

  7. Rebecca says:

Yes, we start in 1st grade.

And, yes, we teach cursive. I think I started at 2nd or 3rd grade.

  14. Thanks to all who commented!

We are those who teach penmanship line upon line, therefore cursive is taught (as a reward, I like that!) when they are doing a good job on their manuscript. It has been different ages for our different children.

Although I knew, and taught our children, that penmanship, like everything else, should be done well to the glory of God, I would have never guessed that there is a Principled way to study penmanship until I began the study myself. Learn those principles and the Biblical foundation of Handwriting, as well as how to teach Handwriting – manuscript and cursive – in this resource. Those that didn’t win can get a Free Sampler on the Freedom & Simplicity in Handwriting catalog page.

    And the winner is —

    Evanna!
    Congratulations! I’ll be emailing you.
