Internet Safety

Having a family and having internet access requires having an internet filter.

We use and love BSafe.

It is a Christian company and works great. You (/the administrator) can custom change the settings if you need to allow a certain site (- such as ours is set to restrict all free webhosts, but I’ve allowed homeschoolblogger.com ) The price is not bad – and it is SO worth it.

You can purchase it through the home site or several different ministries (giving the ministry a bit of a kickback – so choose which one you’d like to support.) Here are a few I know of:

Answers in Genesis
American Family Association

Bsafe Online’s filter unequivocally offers the highest level of Internet protection available on the market today. The combination of the human-review process with a white-list and black-list approach, supported by our rapidly expanding database of more than 1 million reviewed sites makes it the strongest, most reliable, and most effective option you can choose.

This is the world’s best Internet filter software for the family PC. Incredibly fast, reliable, and works with any ISP from anywhere in the world. Our family filter is fast, reliable, secure, and packed with customizable features. Best of all, it’s easy to download and install. Our optional tamper-proof history report is included.

If you do not have an internet filter, get one today – for your whole family’s safety.

Spark of Life

Does mankind control the having of children?

Although we live in a very autonomous culture, everyone doing what is right in their own eyes, there is still a sovereign God on the throne. And although God will at times give mankind, that does not submit to His Word and Lordship in their lives, what they “want”, that He might either draw them to Himself by His good blessings, or that He might allow them to walk in the judgment of their desires, or that they will have no excuse when they stand before His judgment throne, it is still God who is on the throne directing the lives of men, working all for His own Glory!

One thing we learn from this (I’m not speaking coldly of loss, I’ve lost 3 children – 1 early miscarriage, 1 mid-term loss, and 1 death of our infant girl.) but we see that WE do not control when we have children.

Children are conceived, not by the “will of man.” Wanting a baby and doing the “right” thing does not alone produce a child. It takes God, the Author of all Life, to bring that spark of life for any child to be conceived.

True Value

It is amazing, I think, that in America, one of if not the richest countries in the world, parents think they can’t "afford" children. The poorest of our people are richer than many (most?) in the world. The problem is we can’t afford children AND all the toys and self-indulgences we want (and to give the children those same things so we don’t feel so guilty about getting them for ourselves or look not as "with it" as the neighbors.)

God help us for valuing the things of the world above eternal things.

Blessings to all of my children. Who are all loved more than anything this world has to offer. Each of you is SO worth all that I have ever "done without".

Rub-a-Dub-Dub

No this post isn’t about bathing our children. Hmm, I’m not really sure where this is classified in my blogs. Since it’s related to family life I’m posting here, but also cross posting at my educational blog too. But in reality it is only a link to another excellent blog post.

Carmon at buried treasure books begins like this:

It’s been a long time since I’ve written about politics. It’s not that I don’t care about what’s happening in the political realm, but I get frustrated at apathy on the one hand and ignorant compromising on the other that I see among Christians who ought to be able to count on both hands, many times over, the number of times the wool has been pulled over their eyes in every election dating back to when the Moral Majority first gave evangelical voters a voice.
