{"id":146,"date":"2006-03-24T09:54:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-24T15:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/me-and-my-house.org\/blog-led\/2006\/03\/24\/audio-books-part-2\/"},"modified":"2019-06-26T22:48:42","modified_gmt":"2019-06-27T04:48:42","slug":"audio-books-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/frommeandmyhouse.com\/blog-led\/audio-books-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Audio Books &#8211; Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AudioBooks continued:<\/p>\n<p>Part 2<\/p>\n<p>Our first audio Bible was a huge case of 72 cassettes I&#8217;ve passed those on to one of our daughters and purchased an inexpensive mp3 version (only THREE CD&#8217;s) read by Steven Johnston. However, I feel like I&#8217;m listening to speed reading &#8211; so fast I can&#8217;t keep up. But nothing beats Alexander Scourby reading the KJV for an audio Bible. Scourby&#8217;s version will be available inexpensively on mp3 in July. George Sarris is good too, and James Earl Jones.<\/p>\n<p>I must mention a few more series of audios we enjoy. I&#8217;ll refrain from listing teaching audios, since my list would never be finished then. A Treasury of Beatrix Potter is a delight for the youngest ones. In History (keeping to &#8220;storytelling&#8221;, not just &#8220;teaching&#8221;), for the older younger children there are the Historical Devotional CD&#8217;s by Little Bear Wheeler telling U.S. History with a Biblical application. For the older there are Diana Waring&#8217;s What in the World&#8217;s Going on Here CD overview of World History. As well as Peter Marshall&#8217;s books, already mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Others I hope to get on audio, that we have enjoyed in print are the Anne of Green Gables series.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve linked several sources I&#8217;ve checked into or downloaded or purchased from below. There are <strong>many<\/strong> more. And a bit of info about the items I have linked through our site.<br \/>\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccel.org\/index\/mp3.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Christian Classic Ethereal Library<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; is one of my favorite places for online texts of Christian Classic books. They also have some of them in audio download format.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oneplace.com\/downloads\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">OnePlace<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; is a great place for free Christian downloads, from the radio programs of many different ministries, including Adventures in Odyssey. I found many of the sermon\/teaching podcasts I enjoy here. There are also many you can listen to online.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sermonaudio.com\/main.asp\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">SermonAudio<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; has the &#8220;largest library of free mp3 audio sermons on the web &#8211; both current and classic. This is great! many selections from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtolivelibrary.org\/index.php\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mount Olive Tape Library<\/span><\/a><\/span> are linked to SermonAudio.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sermonindex.net\/modules\/mydownloads\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sermon Index<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; has classical vintage audio sermons &#8211; this one has Keith Green&#8217;s sermons &#8211; and Edwards, Spurgeon, Tozer, Pink, Comfort, Ravenhill and many more.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll probably post more specific sermon sites on my Clear Vision blog at another time.<\/p>\n<p>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<br \/>\nThe links below have more Classic audiobooks, in varying formats, but you will have to do much wading through to find good stuff.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/christianaudio.com\/index.php\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Christian Audio<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; carries about the same titles you can get from us. However, they have a subscription program that can save you some money if you order monthly, and also every month they have a FREE download, for anyone. Be aware that &#8220;Christian&#8221; in its name does not mean all their titles line up with Biblical Christianity.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/librivox.org\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Librivox<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; has free audiobook downloads read by real human volunteers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.audible.com\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Audible<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; is a member based download service for purchasing audio books, that play on your computer or portable audio devise &#8211; ipod, Palm, etc.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.audiofy.com\/s.nl\/sc.23\/.f\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Audiofy<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; is a site for purchasing books on digital cards\/chips that can be played on pda&#8217;s, your computer (with a USB adapter), or an inexpensive Audiofy player. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/chipaday.com\/blog\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Chip a Day<\/span><\/a><\/span> will sell you a different one each day, at a discount. I doubt you&#8217;ll be tempted every day by their fare. But when a good one comes along, you&#8217;ll get a good price.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.learnoutloud.com\/Home\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Learn Out Loud<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; is a one-stop place to find audio books &#8211; it links to most of the other places listed here for purchasing or free downloads.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freeclassicaudiobooks.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Free Classic AudioBooks<\/span><\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freechristianaudiobooks.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Free Christian AudioBooks<\/span><\/a><\/span> &#8211; these ones are free, but they are also computer read.<\/p>\n<p>And even Amazon has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/search-handle-url\/ref=br_ss_hs\/002-4994921-0599239?platform=gurupa&amp;url=index%253Dstripbooks%253Arelevance-above%2526dispatch%253Dsearch%2526results-process%253Dbin&amp;field-keywords=Christian+Audio+Classics&amp;Go.x=0&amp;Go.y=0&amp;Go=Go\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Christian Audio Classics<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>And now I must stop with links for today. Once at CBD you may want to search &#8220;Hovel&#8221; by Publisher, to see many &#8220;Christian&#8221; audiobooks, but not all are recommended or Christian.<br \/>\nHere&#8217;s a bit more info about the items we&#8217;ve linked to.<\/p>\n<p>Focus on the Family produces both Radio Theatre &#8211; great literature on tape and CD, and Adventures in Odyssey &#8211; the Christian children&#8217;s program.<\/p>\n<p>Blackstone Audio was the first place we began buying classics on cassette from. The readers usually have a great English accent. I love these.
